Why We Love It

Painted in 1910, The Fur Jacket is a masterful example of DeCamp's work and exemplifies his remarkable technical skill through the successful handling of the fur garment which emerges from the similarly dark colored background. The Fur Jacket was exhibited at several major venues throughout 1910, and it is an important and rare example of DeCamp's paintings of elegant young women.

The Value

DeCamp was one of the founding members of the Impressionist group, the Ten American Painters, and was also an important member of the Boston School. Excellent examples of his work are rare, and this exquisite portrait has exceptional provenance since it remained in the family of the artist for three generations until the present. In excellent condition and with a very fine period frame, The Fur Jacket would be an important addition to any collection of American art.
