Avery Galleries is pleased to present a second ititeration of "Body of Art: The Figure in American Painting," which opens at our NYC location on Sat. November 8, 2025. This installation will feature highlights from our recent exhibition of figurative painting in America and feature works by such iconic artists as John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase, Thomas Anshutz, Irving R. Wiles, Arthur B. Carles and Joseph Stella. Spanning two centuries and multiple artistic movements, the carefully considered selection of artworks in this exhibition highlights the multiplicity of ways that the figure has been depicted throughout American art history from the society portrait, to the nude figure, to the deeply personal and intimate portrayal of an individual.
